At La Dolce Far Niente Press, we believe all of us are intrinsically what someone called ‘Storyvores’. Stories are the way we consume everything — from how the planets spin to why we were ghosted by that someone we adore. We can’t assimilate ideas or emotions any other way! Stories make sense of this chaotic world. Writing stories is very hard work, but it’s also sweet work. And that’s where we found our name: James Joyce called writing, ‘La dolce far niente!’ — The sweet doing of nothing. Nothing?! He meant writing is joyous when it’s hardest! Because that’s when it turns out well. Over the past century storytelling has been overwhelmed by film, TV and Video Games. Yet in most cases those forms require the writer to elide ideas, abridge narrative, and truncate plot. Our unique mission at LDFN is to help screenwriters craft and curate novels, short stories, and essays from their un-produced scripts with the complexity, power, and depth they originally dreamed.
Our Vision
At the heart of La Dolce Far Niente Press we believe storytelling is strongest when the author has fill control of the tale! Script-writing is always controlled by business; simply, films, etc. require massive amounts of money to be produced. The executive decides what is made. Our dream is to give you, the writer, the chance to finally write what you wanted to write when you were first commissioned to write your script or when you first sat down to ‘spec’ it!

Though most publishing houses have been swallowed up by large companies, we are trying to be a boutique company with special connections to Hollywood and other media centers. We intend to make sure the writer is in control of the story. While we welcome all submissions, we especially seek proposals from film, TV and Video Game writers.
